Pic Macaya National Park ‘Discover the Natural Caribbean Charm’

macayaPic Macaya National Park is a spectacular tourist destination for sightseeing, also known as Parc National Pic Macaya in Haiti. It is situated in the beautiful mountain range of massif de la Hotte, in the southern region of the country. The highest peak on this mountain is Pic Macaya, which is also the second highest point in Haiti, just after the Pic la Selle peak. The major attractions of this park are the wildlife, endangered plants and some endemic of the Caribbean Islands. This park features the country’s last stand of virgin cloud forest.

The high mountain ranges are normally karstic and the land of Pic Macaya National Park is uneven, which reaches up to an altitude of 2,347 meters above the sea level. It is one of the most famous national parks of Republic of Haiti that conserves few remaining natural forests on the country.

It also preserves the exclusive fauna and flora of Haiti. This park is a home to 665 vascular plants species among which, 30 percent are found only in Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic countries).The park aims to safeguard the natural habitats of Haiti by providing technical help on the sustainable growth of the native communities residing in the buffer zone of the park. This was done to avoid encroaching and degradation of natural habitat of the country.

Pic Macaya National Park has its own natural charm and beauty that attracts visitors not only from Haiti, but all over the world. It is a perfect place to spend a day with nature, away from the busy and overstressed life. Tourists take pleasure to strolling across the natural lush green park vegetation.
